Mist
2023
Exhibition for Design March with the Blue Lagoon
Mist is an immersive installation designed around the visual experience of the Blue Lagoon.
In the lagoon a stark contrast of a few select colors enter your perception. The softness versus solidity meet in the middle and blur our senses.
The work deals with the interplay of nature and human made elements with the use of two-way mirror and light sculptures. The mirror work is situated in the middle of the space and blurs the perception of viewers situated on each side of it, creating a very intimate experience of merging into another person.
,,When I think of the Blue lagoon I picture a thick white mist blurred together with hues of blue of the sky and the lagoon. It´s a pretty special feeling when travelling through the mist in the lagoon, feeling the softness of the water but also detachment as your eyes can´t see what your body can feel. The human element is really present in the lagoon, both from seeing the blurry shadows of other travellers as well as the aestetics of the geothermal power plant that accidentally created the lagoon. The installation is inspired by the interaction of man made materials with the natural elements and how we react to the unexpected”
