Round Trip
2024
Ásmundarsalur / Reykjavík Art Festival
A collective art installation created by Þórdís Erla Zoëga and Shu Yi @suieius inside a shipping container. The container travelled around Reykjavík and stopped at various locations.
Inspired by their shared aesthetic and interest in exploring perception of space, the artists aimed to present/offer an exhibition that merged aesthetic visions and cultural narratives, engaging in a dynamic conversation between Eastern and Western philosophies.
The work consisted of :
-programmed lights moving with data of tidal waves and wind speed around Reykjavík.
-rotating dichroic circle casting light and reflections, creating a neverending cycle inside an static orb and surrounding area.
,,The title, Round Trip, emerged from our discussions around the shipping container, imagining its long journey over the ocean. We’ve been looking into how tidal cycles are generated by the gravitational interactions between the Earth, Moon, and Sun. All entities naturally follow their cycles, composing themselves into a durational symphony, manifesting in the form of tides. We are making a kind of “Cyber landscape” made from mechanical and computational elements to depict these processes and give them new meaning."
The moving art space was a project of @asmundarsalur in collaboration with @reykjavik.arts.festival. The project was funded by @icelandicartcenter
